Mandarin Lip Balm - Organic Rosehip, Calendula, Beeswax - by Salix Moon Apothecary

This is a highly nourishing, moisturising and restorative natural lip balm made with Calendula infused Sunflower oil, Organic Raw Rosehip oil* , Mandarin essential oil, local Beeswax and Vitamin E in a 15ml glass jar with an aluminium lid. This little tub of sunshine is incredibly soothing and nourishing for dry chapped lips. It glides onto the lips, softening and hydrating whilst creating a protective barrier from the elements. After applying the lip balm you could even add a little sugar to the lips to very gently exfoliate any dry skin away.

Calendula benefits:
This wonderful herb has been macerated in Sunflower oil for many weeks to extract its healing and soothing properties. Calendula officinalis, commonly known as pot marigold, is considered a mainstay in herbal medicine for the treatment of inflammation, to speed skin repair and as an antiseptic. Calendula's powers aren’t just folklore. It contains an array of constituents that work together to create a potent healing remedy, one being salicylic acid, which is an anti-inflammatory that encourages tissue repair. You will often find this magical herb in lip care products due to these gentle yet potent restorative properties.

Rosehip benefits:
Nicknamed the liquid gold of skincare. Rosehip seed oil is widely known for its anti-aging properties as it has been clinically tested and shown to help minimise the appearance of scars and fine lines. Rosehip seed oil is high in Retinoic acid, a pro-vitamin A, which your body turns into retinol, which is widely known for it's highly powerful skin renewal properties. This magical oil is very moisturising, light, non-greasy and full of antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids that help to heal, nourish and protect the lips, making it a perfect ally for soothing dry chapped lips.

Sunflower benefits:
Lovely, light sunflower seed oil has excellent emollient properties that help lips retain their moisture. It is high in Retinoic acid and Vitamin E (the highest amount on vitamin E than any other oil!), both these constituents act as anti-oxidants and help to regenerate damaged skin cells. It is also high in omega-6 (linoleic) fatty acid, which enhances skin barrier repair.

Mandarin:
Mandarin essential oil is a fruity, warming and sweet scent and is considered to be very calming and uplifting.

Beeswax:
We have used unrefined beeswax sourced locally, from a small-scale beekeeper, in our home county of Essex. Our supplier is so local we collect it straight from her house! We opt for beewax over other waxes because it is a byproduct and when sourced locally it has a much smaller carbon footprint than the alternatives, making it a more sustainable option. We think it is important to support local ‘beecentric’ beekeepers, that love and care for their bees and put them first. Plus it’s a wonderfully healing ingredient, it is naturally antibacterial and creates a protective barrier on the skin which aids skin repair.

DIRECTIONS:
Massage a thin layer of salve directly onto the lips to help soothe, soften and protect.

CAUTIONARY:
Some oils and herbs are not advised to take when pregnant. Please contact your doctor, midwife or medical herbalist when considering which natural products are suitable. If you have very sensitive skin I would recommend doing a patch test first. If irritation occurs discontinue use.

CARE:
Store in a cool dark place, this lip balm should be used within 6 months once it has been opened.
